It is WINTER TIME and we have all been very busy in the art room working on some winter projects. We have been able to complete several projects during the month of January, and we still have a couple of weeks left this month. During this month I like to create snowmen, penguins, polar bears, seals and winter landscape scenes with my art classes. We are not just making fun and unique art projects, we are also learning certain concepts and objectives. When we create snowmen we work with shapes and the upper grades learn how to create snowmen in different perspectives. For example third graders created a project of a window view of a snowman outside beside a winter tree. First graders created a snowman looking up and to the side and we are currently working on several other snowman views. We also learn about depth in art and how to create this on a two dimensional surface. Students learn what the foreground, middle ground and background is in art. Primary grades learn facts about the winter animals as they create them and they learn about the profile view. They learn that when the animal is facing sideways you only see one eye and the nose points in a different direction. We have also been experimenting with different types of art techniques and mediums. Third graders have been using chalk and learning blending techniques, first graders learned a mosaic technique, fourth graders worked with collage materials and pattern papers, several classes have been working with different painting techniques and each class has been building on their drawing skills. I hope you enjoy each of the winter projects we have completed so far and I hope you will check back often so that you will not miss out on any of the other projects we finish during the months of January and February . I really enjoy working with each of your talented, unique children, they are each such a blessing. Thank you for sharing them with me.

4th Grade Collage Snowmen

This year fourth graders made these exciting  collage snowmen. We used cut paper techniques, pattern papers, painted snowflakes, buttons and torn paper techniques while making this project. Students learn about depth in art and how we create a foreground, middle ground and background to show depth in two dimensional art.

4th Grade Nutcracker Drawing

This year fourth graders made these beautiful nutcracker drawings. They got to use really long paper to make these and they had a lot of fun with it. Each nutcracker was unique. Students added designs, and special colors to make their nutcracker his or her own. These nutcrackers below were created by both fourth grade classes.

1st Grade Collage Carolers

First graders made these excellent cut paper collage carolers this year. We used actual sheet music for this lesson and the kids thought this was really cool. These carolers pictured below were made by Mrs. Leslie's class.
